Acne Control tips

Are you having acne problems? If you do, you have come to the right place for helpful tips to get rid of your acne and pimples. Below are some recommended "Over The Counter" acne medication products depending on the severity of your acne problems.

Very Mild Acne

Over The Counter: Products containing benzoyl peroxide in an alcohol-based gel or containing salicylic acid.

Prescription Items: Antibiotic applications, oral antibiotics. Injection of cortisone is a quick way to reduce large acne spots.

Mild Acne

Over The Counter: Products containing either salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid or lactobionic acid

Prescription Items: Antiseptic wash, topical retinoids such as tretinoin and adapelene topical antibiotics. If you have many inflammed spots, a course of oral antibiotics will help. Microdermabrasion is also suitable if there are no inflammed acne spots.

Severe Acne

Over The Counter: Over the counter solutions are not useful and recommended apart from antiseptic washes. This is so as if the acne inflammation is too severe, these products will not work.
Prescription Items: Oral Isotretinoin, topical antibiotics or combination of an antibiotic and benzoyl peroxide in a single topical preparation. For the treatment of acne scars, smoothbeam laser may be used. This may also be used to treat persistent acne spots. Also, at least 6 to 10 acne laser treatment sessions may be needed.
Althought the above recommended acne medication products will help get rid of your acne, advice sought from a dermatologist is highly recommended for your acne problems. So, do look for a dermatologist around your area if you have not.
